Frequently asked questions

We answer your questions so you can walk with confidence.

We know that taking the step towards barefoot and grounding footwear can raise many questions. How does it work? What are the benefits? Is it for me? In this section, you'll find clear and honest answers about our Earthies shoes, their minimalist design, the natural materials we use, and how to start reconnecting with the Earth, from your feet.

Your journey to conscious movement and natural well-being begins here.

What does it mean for Earthies to be barefoot and grounding?

Barefoot shoes mimic the barefoot experience: thin sole, wide toe box, zero drop. They eliminate rigid support so your feet can move naturally and strengthen. And because they are also grounding, they are designed to maintain a subtle electrical connection with the ground through materials that allow electrons to flow, as if you were walking in direct contact with the Earth.
This hybrid approach offers conscious movement and natural well-being.

Is transitioning to barefoot grounding safe?

Yes, as long as you do it carefully:

  1. Walk barefoot at home to observe your gait
  2. Start with short walks using Earthies
  3. Alternate with conventional footwear if you feel discomfort
  4. Gradually increase usage over several weeks

  5. If you experience acute pain, take a break or consult a professional

Is it dangerous to use grounding shoes in environments with electromagnetic radiation, antennas, or in cities?

No. In fact, it is exactly the opposite: they protect us and minimize the damage of electromagnetic radiation on our biology. By grounding ourselves, our body equalizes its potential with that of the Earth and decreases the voltage induced by ambient electric fields.

Using earthies is, in essence, just as safe as walking barefoot on soil, grass, or beach sand, but with the advantage of keeping the foot protected against glass, stones, thorns, or cuts.

In measurements taken with 60 Hz electric fields, grounding the body reduced the induced alternating voltage by approximately 70 times. This phenomenon is known in grounding literature as the “umbrella effect” and was discovered by Richard Feynman, who received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1965.[1]

That is why grounding is one of the most effective and simple ways to reduce the electric voltage induced by ambient electromagnetic fields: being connected to the Earth helps precisely to reduce the electric potential induced on our body.

This does not mean that grounding shoes are perfect shielding against any type of electromagnetic radiation, but it does mean that the connection to the Earth significantly reduces the bodily damage produced by ambient EMF radiation.

Safety note: this recommendation does not apply to situations involving professional electrical risk. If you work as an electrician, high-voltage technician, or in any environment where electrical insulation is required, you must always use footwear and personal protective equipment approved for that task. This is a very specific situation unrelated to the daily use of earthies, but the corresponding safety regulations must always be respected.

What surfaces does grounding with Earthies work on?

For a real connection to the Earth to occur, you need to walk on conductive surfaces.

Your Earthies allow for grounding on:

  • Grass (natural)
  • Sand
  • Soil
  • Gravel
  • Unsealed concrete
  • Natural stone or rock
  • Water or natural damp surfaces

Conversely, it does not work on surfaces such as asphalt, treated sidewalks, plastic, or sealed indoor floors.

What real benefits can I expect?

  • Improved balance and posture
  • Natural strengthening of foot muscles
  • Reduced tension in ankles and knees
  • Increased proprioception and awareness with each step
  • Feeling of connection with the Earth and tactile well-being

Can I wear Earthies all day?

Yes, but if you're transitioning from conventional supportive footwear, it's ideal to make a gradual transition.

Earthies doesn't restrict your feet; it frees them. But that means your muscles and ligaments need time to adapt to a more natural way of walking.

Do they fit all foot types?

Earthies has a wide and flexible last that adapts to wide feet, bunions, hammer toes, or high arches.

It does not correct or force positions: it allows your foot to move freely and functionally.

If you have a specific medical condition, you can consult a movement professional or specialized physiotherapist.

How long should I wear them a day to notice benefits?

There isn't an exact figure; many people report benefits with just 20–30 minutes of daily use on conductive surfaces.

What's important is consistency: walking a little each day connected to the Earth can have a greater impact than doing it once a week for hours.

How do I find my size?

You can use our step-by-step Size Guide to measure your foot at home.

All you need is a piece of paper, a wall, and a ruler.

We also help you identify your length and width so you can choose the ideal fit.

How do I clean and care for my earthies?

  • Use a damp cloth and mild soap
  • Allow to air dry, avoiding direct heat
  • Apply natural protective cream if you notice dry skin
